For over 80 years, Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary has striven to serve Southern California by carrying on Jewish traditions and through continuous interfaith outreach. Resources for You and Loved Ones

While recent loss can feel overwhelming, you don’t have to experience it unsupported. Find resources, organizations, and traditions to help you navigate grief on our resource page, including: 



  • Customs of Farewell: Connect with local synagogues that offer Minyan services to help organize comforting Jewish mourning ceremonies.
  • Bereavement Support Groups: Organizations like Our House Grief Support Center, Hope Connection, and others are supportive community and non-judgmental facilitators to those experiencing the pain of grief.
  • Individual Bereavement Counseling: No one experiences grief the same way. Discover individual grief counseling to help you navigate this painful experience by attending to your unique needs.
  • Household items and Clothing Donations: Pass clothing, cookware, and other items to other members of your community by donating them to our recommended thrift shops.

Grief Support Groups

The grief of a loss is one of the most difficult experiences we can go through. To help the bereaved find support during this painful time, Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary offers monthly grief support groups facilitated by Maggi Scharf, M.Ed., CPCC, our certified grief counselor.

Education Programs at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary

As an integral part of Southern California’s Jewish Community, Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary proudly offers educational programs about Jewish Traditions as well as charitable contributions to community organizations. Our programs include:


  • Onsite Education Programs: These specialized educational programs about Jewish rituals of death and mourning are offered to rabbinical students, religious school students, and adults.
  • Community Genizah: This burial site for retired Torah scrolls and worn prayer books offers the community a place to dispose of these sacred items in accordance with Jewish Law.
  • Scholarships and Grants: In addition to scholarships for mortuary college students, we also provide grants to organizations supporting public education in Southern California.

Community Service

As a non-profit service of Temple Israel Hollywood, Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary serves Southern California’s Jewish and Interfaith Communities. We proudly provide: 



  • Community Grants: Grants to community organizations providing social services for seniors, children, veterans, families, and the hungry, as well as programs to enhance Jewish life in Los Angeles.
  • Special Services: We host services on select days, including the annual Kever Avot v’Imahot Service to honor the memory of family members, as well as unique Mother’s Day and Father’s Day remembrance events.
  • Donations: The Hillside Chesed Project collects food, toys and books, hearing aids, and glasses for those who need them in Los Angeles.
  • Ceremonial Materials: Hillside provides complimentary Jewish Calendars, yahrzeit candles, and books about Jewish mourning traditions, grieving, and other related subjects.
