Our Story

The History of Hillside

Founded in 1941 as B’nai B’rith Memorial Park before being renamed in 1942, Hillside Memorial Park has been a cornerstone of Jewish values in Los Angeles since it became a service of Temple Israel of Hollywood in 1957. As the dignified final resting place for those who have shaped the community and inspired lives across the nation, Hillside has set the standard for excellence in end-of-life care. Recognizing all denominations of Judaism since our founding, we have always provided elevated services for the unique needs of every family.

A Space for Tranquility and Reflection

Amid Los Angeles’ vibrant metropolitan atmosphere, Hillside Memorial Park has long provided a tranquil space for remembrance and reflection to generations. From the iconic dome of the Jolson Memorial designed by famed architect Paul R. William to the serene waterfalls in the Garden of Solomon to stained glass and sculpture-work adorning our lush grounds, Hillside has long cultivated works of world-renowned artists to create an unparalleled sanctuary experience for visitors.

Integral to the Los Angeles Jewish and Interfaith Communities

Hillside Memorial Park honors the past, present, and future while embracing the value of Tikkun Olam or repairing the world. Committed to supporting local services and organizations, Hillside has continuously invested in Los Angeles community organizations, including Hebrew Union College, Big Sunday, and the Culver City Unified School District, among many others, through outreach grants and sponsorships. We continue to reach out and build new partnerships to support our community and celebrate our shared heritage.
