Bud Petrick: A Life of Service, Leadership, and Community
Bud Petrick, who passed away at the age of 91, was a foundational figure in Pacific Palisades, leaving an indelible mark through his professional achievements and unwavering community involvement.
Early Life and Career
Born in Lincoln Heights, East Los Angeles, Bud spent his formative years in San Gabriel and Monmouth, Oregon. After high school, he worked in roofing before serving in the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1956, where he was stationed on an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean. Upon returning, Bud transitioned into advertising, which eventually led him to Pacific Palisades—and to a pivotal meeting with real estate broker Lelah Pierson. Recognizing his potential, Pierson encouraged Bud to pursue real estate, even offering him an advance against commissions to help him get started. Bud began his real estate career in 1961, eventually co-owning Pierson’s firm before founding his own company, Bud Petrick & Associates, in 1985.Under his leadership, the firm grew to include 50 agents and became a major presence in the local market. Bud later sold the company to Prudential and continued his work with Coldwell Banker until retiring.
Community Involvement
Bud’s commitment to Pacific Palisades extended far beyond his professional endeavors. He served multiple terms as president of the Optimist Club, where he championed youth programs and community initiatives. As a longtime member and multiple-term president of the Palisades Americanism Parade Association (PAPA), Bud played a central role in organizing the town’s beloved Fourth of July parade for more than three decades. In 2009, he was honored as parade marshal, and he proudly co-announced the parade alongside his daughter, Kimberly, for many years. Bud also served as president of the Pacific Palisades Chamber of Commerce—a title later held by his son, John—making them the only father-son duo to serve in that role.
Personal Life
Bud’s personal life was rich with family and grounded in love. He was first married to Jacqueline, with whom he had two daughters, Julie and Susan. Years later, he met and married Lori, a beloved teacher in the community, with whom he shared nearly 30 years of marriage and raised two children, John and Kimberly. After Lori’s passing in 2002, Bud remarried in 2006, finding companionship with his wife Donna. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia and Diana; his children—John, Kimberly, and Julie; his grandchildren: David, Jack, Delaney, Austin, and Riya; and his great-grandson, Ryder.
