Ruth Lenore Chess

Ruth Lenore Chess was born in Winnipeg, Canada on January 10, 1924 and passed away peacefully in her home on July 17, 2022 at the age of 98. She is survived by her sons, Toby (Sheila) and Les (Pamela), as well as her grandchildren, Stacy (Gabriel), Kelly and Todd, and great grandchildren Hayley and Hunter. She was blessed to have a wonderful friendship with her caregiver, Carmen, who devoted 6+ years in service of Ruth. Prior to his passing, she spent 63 years with her husband, Louis Chess, the great love of her life.
Ruth was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and her work ethic was second to none, with a lengthy career in the interior décor industry, where she worked well into her 90s. She spent many years as the President of AMS / Forms + Surfaces, working out of the famous Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles.
Ruth had a large, and extremely close, group of friends, who spent their empty-nest years traveling the world together, and taking turns hosting dinner parties for holidays and family events. She turned her basic knowledge of cooking into a lifelong passion, spending years collecting cookbooks and perfecting her culinary skills. If you were fortunate enough to secure a seat at her table, you witnessed a masterclass in presentation, as her table settings were always exquisite and her meals were sublime. There will never again be another macaroon that can compare to hers…
Now that she’s departed, she will forever be remembered for her style, grace, and dignified manner that echoed across all facets of her life, right up until her final hours. She exited this life just how she lived it; with elegance and flawless skin. A life well lived, she will be missed but never forgotten.
