Rita Kun, Kamins, left this earth after a series of long battles with cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She lived a life driven by kindness, compassion, curiosity, and strength, even in the face of the illnesses that shaped, and shortened, the last chapter of her life. She was a child of Los Angeles- born in Inglewood, raised in Mar Vista and Cheviot Hills, educated at Hamilton High School and UCLA. She was a teenage model (named Miss Camera Day in 1959) and after developing an interest in archaeology, went on to work as a docent at the La Brea Tar Pits, a role she cherished. Yet it was her role as a parent, partner, and friend that she cherished most of all. She is survived by her husband Tom (her partner in all things for 57 years), her brother Larry, her children Heather and Josh, her grandchildren Luciana, Hadley, and Yamila, and her dog Dixie, her faithful companion to the end. May her memory be a blessing. Services to be held at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, 6001 W Centinela Ave, LA CA 90045. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Saint John’s Cancer Institute at Providence Saint John’s Health Center.
