Rita Levy

Rita Levy, 91, passed away gently and peacefully on February 21, 2023, at her home in Torrance CA surrounded by her beloved family.

Rita was born on November 5th, 1931, in Los Angeles, CA, to parents Victor Hasson (originally from Egypt) and Rose Levine (from Russia).  She and her devoted husband of 71 years, Leon Levy, raised three children –  David, Robert and Carrie –  in Inglewood and then Torrance, CA.

A woman of radiant warmth, optimism, and generosity, Rita spread joy wherever she went.  Her smile and laughter were infectious.  She loved the simple pleasures of life: sitting in her backyard with a hot cup of coffee, soaking up the warmth of the sun (especially on the beach in Avalon), listening to her favorite music, being with her family, and most of all, life itself.

Rita is survived by her husband, 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 7 nieces and nephews, 1 brother (Ron) and a multitude of cousins. Rita was predeceased by her sister, Shirley.

A celebration of Rita’s life will be held on Monday, February 27 at Hillside Memorial Park at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations in her name to the Rhodes Jewish Museum or Holocaust Museum Los Angeles, as a testament to the culture she always cherished.
