Major was born on July 11th, 1942, the son of Michael and Minna, and brother of Robert Langer. He passed away on December 29th, 2017. He grew up in Sullivan County, NY, the heart of the Catskills during its “Borscht Belt” heyday. Major’s kindness, optimism, personable nature, curiosity, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit were a product of his small-town upbringing in Swan Lake, NY where he worked alongside his father at the family business, the Swan Lake Fish Company, and at the historic Commodore Hotel. These traits would also prove to be instrumental during 50 years of legal practice at the same firm in Long Beach, CA, now known as Perona, Langer, Beck, Serbin and Harrison, and the Law Offices of Larry H. Parker, where he served as the managing partner and built a reputation as an accomplished and respected trial attorney. Major handled what is believed to be the longest civil trial in California history, a landslide defect case lasting for 14 months before a successful jury verdict, and took over 75 criminal and civil cases to verdict.
Major was devoted to his wife of 45 years, Shirley, his two daughters, Jessica and Alexis, his son Ryan, and his two grandchildren, Bobby and Zelda Sousa.
If Major was not with his family or at the office, he was in his barn making wine, woodworking, gardening or watching the Dodgers.
Services will be held at 12:00pm, Thursday, January 4th at Hillside Memorial, 6001 W. Centinela Ave., Los Angeles, CA. Donations may be made to the ADL in his honor.
