Lewis David Roth Profile Photo

Lewis, a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and mentor to his family and friends, passed away at the Oakmont Senior Living Facility in Simi Valley, California of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly in 2021 to whom he was married for sixty-four years. Lewis is survived by his three children: Stephen (Carol), Gary (Tiffany), Lauren, and seven grandchildren: Tyler, Jonathan, Tessa, Rachel, Brandon, Collin, and Parker.

Lewis was born in Lorain, Ohio to John (Pharmacist) and Bessie Roth (Homemaker & Violinist). After his basic education in the Lorain school system, he graduated in 1956 from the Ohio State University School of Pharmacy in Columbus, Ohio.

He met his late wife in 1956, and they were married in Los Angeles in 1957 while Lewis was serving in the U.S. Army Chemical Corp in northern Utah and assigned to a hospital unit where lethal war gases were tested at the Dugway Proving Ground in the Great Salt Lake Desert. After military service in 1959, Lewis came to Los Angeles where he practiced pharmacy for fifty years for the Savon & CVS drug companies until his retirement from management in 2008. Early in his professional career, he was instrumental in forming the Pharmacy Guild, an independent arm of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.

During his retirement years, Lewis and Beverly traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East.  Among his special interests, Lewis enjoyed landscaping and gardening, completing crossword puzzles, reading history and biography books, listening to big band jazz and popular music, rooting for his favorite baseball teams – the Los Angeles Dodgers and Angels, and, of course, providing free medicinal advice (only when it was appropriate).

Funeral services were private and held in Culver City, California at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lewis’ name can be made to your favorite charity.
