Evelyn W. Evans

Evelyn (Weinstein) Evans, age 93, died peacefully on January 13, 2018 in the comfort of her longtime home in Culver City. She was surrounded by family and loved ones. Evelyn was born on February 28, 1924 in Woodridge, New York. After spending her childhood in Woodridge, she moved to Hartford, Connecticut to attend Teacher’s College. Following college, she moved to Los Angeles. There she met and married the love of her life, Hy Evans, and was blessed with his daughter Ina Landweber. Together, Hy and Evelyn had their daughter, Melissa Moritz. Evelyn’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family and extended family. Evelyn thoroughly loved teaching, reading, cooking and testing her math abilities. Up until very recently, she was computing multiplication and long division while doing her daily exercises around the block. Evelyn spent most of her teaching career at Dorsey High School in Los Angeles where she instituted the Career Day to better introduce her students to future career opportunities. She is survived by her daughters, Ina & Melissa, son in laws, Victor and Steven, grandchildren, Joseph, Alex, Haley, Andrew and their dog Paco.

Somehow they knew how accomplished Evelyn would be, 75 years ago, at Weaver High School, she was voted most likely to succeed and succeed she did!!

Donations may be made to Dorsey High School. Funeral Services will be held at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California on Tuesday, January 16th at 11:00 am.
