Elaine Phyllis Schulman Profile Photo

Elaine Schulman passed away from natural causes at 91, six weeks after falling at the Westchester home she & her husband (Stanley Schulman, deceased in 2012) purchased shortly after getting married in 1957. She enjoyed a long, healthy, & satisfying life. She had a wonderful marriage of 55 years with Stan. Together, they raised Sheri (Ed) & welcomed three children- Norman (Marla), Terri (Brian) & Lori (Jerome). While her children were her life, she sparkled & smiled the most when she was with her grandchildren – Debi, Heather, Rebecca, Aubrey, Danielle, Ruby, Sam & Noah – & with her great-grandchildren – Harrison, Asher, Elijah, Ruth & Bennett.

Elaine (nee Feldman) was the oldest of four sisters (Carol, Diana & Judy), born to Rose & Harry Feldman in St. Louis, Missouri. When she was a teenager, the Feldmans moved to Los Angeles.  She graduated from Dorsey High School in 1950.

During the Korean War, she became pen pals with Richard Leiser, who was serving our country. Upon his return home, they married. One year later, Sheri was born. But sadly, as fate would have it, Richard died suddenly of polio. Sheri was less than one year old. Elaine was a widow. A year later, Elaine attended a Jewish dance with a friend & met Stan.  Elaine’s friend left, & she needed a ride home. Elaine accepted a ride from Stan, who was quite the gentleman.  Elaine contacted Stan the next day to tell him she had left her glove in his car. She asked if they could meet to retrieve the glove.  The truth was, she wasn’t wearing gloves that night! This delightful man fell in love with Elaine & Sheri.

Elaine was a loving & supportive mother. Though she worked full-time for PCC (until the age of 84!), she never missed a back-to-school night & was involved in all her kids’ extracurricular activities. Elaine & Stan loved UCLA basketball & were season ticket holders for all the “Wooden” years. They loved to travel, especially by train. They enjoyed countless concerts, plays & movies during their time together.

We honor Elaine! We wish all who read this could experience such a full & loving life. She is now reunited with Stan, sitting next to him at Pauley Pavilion & rooting for another Bruin victory!!
