Alvin Kaufman

Alvin “Al” Kaufman, 90, of Playa Vista, CA, died January 23rd, 2021, at Cedars Sinai hospital. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and was the son of the late Robert Kaufman and Edna (Steinklein) Kaufman.

Alvin was raised and educated in North Hollywood, CA, graduating from North Hollywood High School in 1948. After high school, he worked in a nursery and he always had a lifelong passion for plants. Eventually, he worked in the family business of Robert Kaufman Company, and shared ownership of the firm. Alvin enjoyed tennis, watching sports, going on cruises, dancing, and being with his family. He had a great sense of humor and greeted you with his big smile.

Alvin was the beloved husband of 66 years to Dorita Kaufman of Playa Vista, CA; father of Laurie Thomas and her husband Eric Thomas of Toluca Lake, CA; father of Steve Kaufman and his wife Sally Bryant of Marina Del Rey, CA; brother of the late Gladys Esenstein and her husband (deceased) Sam Esenstein of Laguna Woods, CA; brother of the late Saul Kaufman and his wife the late Ilene Kaufman of Tarzana, CA; brother of Harvey Kaufman and his wife Bella Kaufman of Rancho Mission Viejo, CA; sister-in-law (deceased) Vivian Sinay and her husband the late Joe Sinay and sister-in-law Clara Mayman of Agoura Hills, CA and her husband (deceased) Sid Mayman. Also survived by grandchildren Gram and Angelica Thomas of Toluca Lake, CA and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The graveside service will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club.
